Description and Attributes

The compass that does not point north... Well then where does it point you ask? Why, it points to the thing you want most in this world! That's right my dear friends possibly one of the greatest props in all of movie history: the compass that can lead you to whatever your heart desires. It was stated in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl that Jack Sparrow's compass did not point north. But it wasn't until the sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest that we all found out where it truly points.

Jack Sparrow obtained the compass from the Calypso encarnate Tia Dalma (Most likely in exchange for sex). Upon obtaining this compass Jack used it to his advantage by setting out on the quest for the Isla De Muerta to find the treasure of Cortez (himself).

The compass hangs just below Annamaria's belt (the bottom one) and is tied together with what looks like leather rope. As you can see in the picture above the compass is chipped in several places and is very worn due to it's exposure to constant weather as well as many adventures.

Also, you will see in the picture above that the point on the dial is very red and very easy to find, whereas in the COTBP it is about the same color as the rest of the dial. This did feature of the compass did change because of the story in the sequels.

Master Replicas

Master Replicas produced a limited edition replica of the compass when Dead Man's Chest was released, so due to the limited release have become harder to find over the years. While not entirely accurate (same said for most of the MR Pirates line), it's one of the few if not only real deal (aka, not toy) version of the compass you can find... if you can find it that is.

Zizzle

When Dead Man's Chest was released, Disney teamed up with toy company Zizzle to produce Pirates of the Caribbean related merchandise, one being a Captain Jack Sparrow dress up kit, which included a couple of temporary tattoos, a bandanna, rings, etc. While the set was designed more in mind for children, one item of interest was the compass. While not entirely accurate, with modfications it's a good option for those who can't afford or even find the more expensive alternative, but same can be said for this version aswell. When At World's End was released a whole new kit was released, the compass was changed to a less accurate more toy like version, and in turn made the older one more of a rarity. However, from time to time they can still be found on ebay.
